Lecture
From Slavery to Shelter: Stories from Baltimore's Aged Men and Women's Home of the Methodist Episcopal Church, 1870-1910.
In 1980 excavations in Baltimore uncovered a features for a late 19th-century Aged Home. Students from Huntingtown High School Archaeology Club spent the 2017-2018 school year analyzing artifacts from this site and researching the home’s history using church and census records, insurance maps and newspapers. Their work reveals a fascinating look at a church-sponsored charity that cared for elderly, former slaves.
